Camping in the Southern Drakensberg
The campsite at Cobham is an rustic open area where visitors can put up tents or caravans anywhere within the designated limits. There is a small ablution block with hot water showers and toilets. Cobham has a number of caves which accommodate a maximum of 12 people on overnight hikes. These caves are reached by three-to-fivehour walks from the office. Book at kznwildlife.com.
The newly established Hermits Wood camp site run by KZN Ezemvelo Wildlife is situated near the Drakensberg Gardens Hotel within the Mlambonja River valley. The camp site looks onto the Garden Castle peak to the South and the Majestic Rhino Peak to the North
The sites are conveniently placed close to the major hiking routes as well as the reserve office and shop, where curios and basic food stuff can be purchased. There are ten campsites in this facility which are situated on a grassed bank with a rustic communal ablution with hot water showers for those cold winter evenings. Please note that the reserve has no power points and you are required to supply your own gas lighting, however a gas freezer is available as well as braai facilities. Book at kznwildlife.com.
The picnic sites in the day visitor area also have braai facilities and are available for the making of fires.
NGUNI MOON TEPEE CAMP
This is Glamping at its best... camping in luxury under the Drakensberg moon without the hassle of carting and setting up. Book the entire camp for a family/friend getaway, or book a tepee for a weekend getaway. Goxhill Trout Lodge
Located on a tranquil 200 hectare trout dam, this historic farm offers a number of beautiful sites under the trees alongside the Lodge, and overlooking the lake. Upmarket facilities are provided, and laundry can be arranged on request.
